Double retrospect

Okay, so the entire reason I created this blog was to document my progress in double retrospect, and maybe some other puzzles later on (I have a couple of the big puzzles, and plan to get more)

So here's the progress so far...

First of all, I'll give you a bit of an idea of my workspace

(sorry about the image quality on some of these, I was using my playstation vita camera, but I switched to a real digital camera later)

My desk, it's an approximate 23x40 inch space for puzzles, enough to do a 1,000-1,500 piece puzzle easily, as you can see, I get a solid amount of light from the lamp above, and the light in the desk.
Here is my extended workspace, I used one of those display boards that are used at school science fairs. It's nice solid cardboard, and it's held down by the desk top.
My floor addition... I spent hours cleaning my room to make room for this, the board is 5'2"x3'6.5" should be enough to do a full section of "life: The greatest challenge"

Now for double retrospect
The full image, the puzzle is of course devided into 8 sections, 4 pictures apeace
All of the bags removed from the box, and the poster... This is what 32,000 puzzle pieces looks like =) and of course, we all know that puzzles are cat magnets, My cat Lucy didn't waste much time on this one
Sorting process, about halfway done with the first section. I sorted in a ROY G BIV order, with white at the end, and pink at the beginning
more sorting, I dumped all 4,000 section A pieces between two drawers such as the one the white is in, and then removed about 3-4 handfulls at a time to sort.
Just half of the army of white pieces... I scared already.
All done sorting, this is what 4,000 pieces looks like sorted
 My first two pieces =)
My 3rd days work (after an hour of sorting out the pink/black pieces, and two days of sorting into color)
This is what an hour of sorting gets you =)
 part of 4th days work
the full result of my 4th day
Here's (part of) what I did on my 5th day, I hit a little issue though (as you'll see in the next pic)
I put these two pieces together, they were the only two that would possibly work, but I'm still a bit iffy, as you can see, there's a slight unevenness on the bottom edge, I asked tom over at Sex Drugs and Jigsaw Puzzles for advice, and he thinks it's incorrect, yet it's the only thing that works... I guess we'll see

here's another picture of the previous problem, the X squares are the pieces in question, as you can see, I continued my work, and it looks fine, but I'm still a bit iffy about the way the pieces are fitting together, I seem to also have a similar problem with the two pieces marked O...

Anyways, That's my progress so far... I might not get a lot of work done at once, and it might take awhile, but I think it'll all come together nicely.

  1. Hmmm....I think Tom is right....it doesn't look like things are in the right place on those X and O spots. I haven't got this puzzle so Tom would probably know better how they fit together, but considering that it's a Ravensburger product, my guess would be that you should have a pretty nice and snug fit on each piece. With the one piece that is slightly uneven on the bottom, I would really question if it is in the right place.

Good job so far though! And great job on blog. Glad you decided to do it.
