Neuschwanstein castle + DR day 11/12

So I decided to mix it up a little today and put the double retrospect update last =)

So to start off, I've said multiple times that I don't like real life images in my puzzles, I prefer something that's come out of someones imagination, I just find the puzzles more interesting...

There is however one exception, Neuschwanstein castle (try to say that ten times fast =D), the granddaddy of all castle puzzles, It's pretty much a given that if you're into puzzles, that you've seen Neuschwanstein castle, it's about the most beautiful castle ever erected...

Which made me think that while i've done a puzzle of Neuschwanstein castle when I was younger, it's been awhile... I was looking for a large version of the puzzle, however the images I REALLY like are the 2,000 piece Buffalo puzzle versions (I especially love the Neuschwanstein Castle in winter image)

anyways, that let me to realize, Buffalo games makes four 2,000 piece neuschwanstein castle puzzles, and they're set during the four seasons of the year, wouldn't it be fun to get all four, mix them, and then put together what would essentually be "The four seasons of Neuschwanstein Castle" as a 8,000 piece puzzle =) I mean all the big puzzles come in sections, why shouldn't I buy sections and make up my own huge puzzle =P

anyways, now for some images...

 Neuschwanstein Castle during spring
Neuschwanstein Castle during summer
 Neuschwanstein Castle during fall
 Neuschwanstein Castle during winter

Honestly, I don't know why the heck a puzzle company hasn't released a four seasons puzzle like this, it seems totally marketable to me... Only thing I would do is rebrand the spring image as summer and the summer image as spring... I mean the vibrancy of the landscape mixed with the rainbow in the summer picture just screams spring more than the one that's supposed to be spring...

Now on to double retrospect
Sorted the pieces, took and hour total, first 3 boards are orange/black, final board is anything with white or blue, this way I didn't have the partial white or blue pieces in the way when I was doing the hunched man, which didn't have any blue near it, and then I was easily able to find the orange/black/white pieces that fit on this panel after I had finished the black
an hour of puzzling right there
another hour and I was done with the hunched dolphin holding man =)

sooooo...

Sorting 10.5 hours
Pink: 8 hours
Green: 3.5 hours
orange: 2 hours
Total: 24 hours

  1. The castle pictures are cool looking. It would be a really neat idea to have a 4 seasons version. The castle has been made into a puzzle from just about every puzzle manufacturer there is...that would at least be different!

  2. Like I said, it would be a really great, and marketable idea... I mean they actually thought that the 12,000 version was a good idea although it was nothing but a VERY distant view of the castle and 90% of the image was forest... heck, buffalo games should make a 34,000 piece version of the four seasons, and get into the record puzzle business =)

  3. Hmmm....34,000 pieces would be awesome. Maybe you should write to Buffalo Games and suggest your idea.

  4. I just did =) I just sent the following email to buffalo games pleading to make us american puzzlers proud =)

    Dear Buffalo Games,

I've recently found the time and space to start assembling large puzzles, and of course immediately gravitated towards the giant puzzles that have been holders of the record for largest commercially manufactured puzzle in the world, such as Life: the greatest challenge, by educa, double retrospect by ravensburger, and educa's new record holder "wildlife", however the one thing I noticed is that all of these puzzles (and the puzzles that came before them) are from foreign manufacturers such as ravensburger and educa... there's not a single world record holding puzzle made in the good ol' USA, and I think that's an embarrassment to our countries puzzle industry, we're saying to the rest of the world that our puzzles aren't as good as the rest of the worlds...

I am sending this message to plead with you, as one of the largest american puzzle manufacturers, please don't let this continue, please make us as a country proud that we have the record of largest puzzle in the world, please develop a puzzle larger than 33,600 pieces and trump the competition.

    best regards

    David Larson

  5. Cool...hopefully it will get someone's attention. Even if they didn't make one larger than 33,600, one that was at least 18,000 pieces would be nice. I thought you were going to suggest specifically a 4 seasons version of the Castle picture though?

I wrote to Caeco once suggesting that they think about doing an 18,000 or larger piece puzzle of a collage of Thomas Kinkade's work. Something similar to how the Life puzzle is constructed from lots of different art of Royce McClure, I think a puzzle of an entire village or something like that of Thomas Kinkade's work would be amazing! I know he's dead now, but whomever holds the rights to his art could go about doing it. It would just be awesome! Don't you think?

  6. yeah! I do think so, a giant kinkade callage would be amazing! I'd buy it (although tom wouldn't, amirite =D)... honestly on the Neuschwanstein castle thing, I decided that it would be much more effective to challenge them than to make suggestions... I very rarely see companies follow suggestions unless they see a demand, while an actual challenge, and veritable shaming, might push a few buttons and make them consider it... and really, once I started thinking of suggesting a large puzzle from the company, I felt challenging them to break the record was the way to go =)

  7. not to mention, I can always suggest a four seasons puzzle later, but if they were to attempt to break the record, they would need to start now before ravensburger releases their next world record breaker =D

  8. Good point. Hopefully you will at least get a response from them.
